Bob is an associate faculty in the Division of Public Safety Leadership in the School of Education at The Johns Hopkins University. In addition to his teaching, Bob engages in consulting that helps organizations and individuals improve performance, through work that promotes strategic alignment with organizational purpose. Bob has more than 32 years of public service, the last two-thirds of which were devoted to intelligence and national security work for the Department of Defense, where he was a senior executive.
Prior to joining the faculty at Johns Hopkins, Bob was a full-time faculty member of the National Defense University, where he taught in the Middle States accredited graduate program of National Security Studies at the National War College. He and a colleague published Intelligence and the National Security Strategist, which has been used at all of the senior service schools in the Department of Defense. A 2nd edition was printed in the fall of 2005.
Bob has also served on the staff of a Member of Congress, as a senior analyst with the U.S. General Accounting Office (the investigative arm of Congress), and on the staff of the Assistant Secretary of Interior. . Bob is a native of Washington, D.C., and graduated with honors in Political Science and History from the University of Maryland at College Park. He holds graduate degrees from the University of Maryland and from Johns Hopkins University. He also received an honorary graduate degree from the National Defense University, and is a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute.
