Completed Research
DPSL's completed research and evaluation for public dissemination include:
- Characteristics of exemplary sergeants funded by the USDOJ National Institute of Justice. This study will result in a publication of a textbook called The Virtuous Cop on police ethics and integrity coming Fall 2005.
- Behavior of model patrol commanders funded by the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention, State of Maryland
- Application of Intelligence-led policing to the Delaware State Police Administrative Division funded by the State of Delaware
- Organization and technology needs of the Bladensberg, MD Police Department
- Current needs and trends of campus security funded by the USDOJ Community Oriented Policing Services Office (COPS)
- A collaborative study with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) of policing, post 9/11. This study resulted in the production of five related publications available through the IACP.
- Analysis of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) security courses funded by FTA and USDOT
- Development of strategic counter-terrorism training for transit managers funded by FTA and USDOT
- Development of a national strategy to combat identity theft funded by the USDOJ Community Oriented Policing Services Office (COPS)
- Development of a prototype of a school safety site providing on-line learning for school and public safety professionals, as well as parents and students.
DPSL's Police Executive Leadership degree program for public safety managers taught by DPSL staff has resulted in several student research and evaluation projects that have had direct application to their respective public safety agencies. Past topics include: "hotspot" tactics and strategies, application of CompStat to fire departments, licensing bureau evaluation, and a survey of attitudes of females toward their agencies.
