Students

At Johns Hopkins University Division of Public Safety Leadership (DPSL), students are top priority. Students aren't admitted into degree programs unless they are exemplary professionals - which means they are talented, committed and of course, very busy.

DPSL is committed to creating a learning community of support and relevance so students efficiently and effectively make the most of their time at Hopkins. Offering student logistical assistance, using a cohort learning model, and continuing to keep students connected beyond graduation is DPSL's three-dimensional approach to meaningful student community building.

  • Student Logistical Assistance: DPSL staff streamlines student experiences by handling of each person's course registration, as well as book purchases and delivery. This allows students more time to stay focused on making valuable connections, class content and applying new knowledge to current career challenges.

  • The Cohort Model: Students proceed through their degree program as part of a cohort - a group that takes the same courses on the same schedule. The cohort is formed from students holding various ranks, backgrounds, tenure, and from a number of regional jurisdictions. This provides exceptional opportunities for inter-jurisdictional collaboration and personal networking.

  • Sustained Connection: Throughout their intensive academic journey, cohorts generally mature into a highly effective, interdependent, and close-knit network of public safety professionals. After graduation, cohorts often choose to continue to meet personally and professionally. To support continued connections, DPSL will launch an online community space for cohorts this fall to create a space for easy communication between alumni, and facilitate the sharing and building of new public safety knowledge.
